Town Centres Redevelopment

Transforming Bedford Town Centre

Bedford is being transformed thanks to several new developments which will position the town centre as a vibrant hub serving the wider region, making it a high-quality place to live, work, shop, study and visit.

These include:

  • Town Centre West - A £180 million redevelopment of the town centre will see the creation of new public squares and open spaces, a state-of-the-art bus terminal, improvements to the railway station, a hotel and significant new retail and leisure developments.
  • Riverside Square – is a new £20 million mixed-use waterside development that will see a grand public square, a new pedestrian/cyclist bridge, 147 apartments and five restaurants/cafes.
  • Cultural Quarter - a further £20 million is being invested in the Castle Lane area, boosting the town’s cultural offer, with improvements to the Bedford Museum and Cecil Higgins Art Gallery. This will also include the creation of an outdoor archaeological park, lime kiln vault, three restaurants, specialist retail units and new residential units.
