Mayor

Did you know that Bedford has one of only twelve directly elected Mayors in the UK ? This means that the Mayor has real political power and exerts more influence in the office than Local Authority appointed mayors who are often little more than ceremonial figures who chair council meetings. Bedford’s current Mayor, Dave Hodgson, is a Liberal Democrat and was elected in October 2009, after the late (and first elected Mayor of Bedford), Frank Branston, passed away.
