Parks and Countryside

The Bedford area is blessed with some beautiful country parks and open spaces. In town, Bedford Park is part of the town's Victorian legacy, with its formal gardens, carriage circuit and lake, makes it the perfect place to enjoy a peaceful stroll, just minutes from the town centre. The Embankment is renowned as one of the country's finest river settings with its gardens and water meadows.
The local countryside includes historic woodland and natural lakes within walking distance of the town centre, such as the Priory Country Park,  while to the south of Bedford, the Forest of Marston Vale has seen more than half a million trees planted to create a new community forest. North of Bedford is the Harrold-Odell Country Park, a 144-acre site of landscaped lakes and meadows.

Further afield is the Greensand Ridge, offering great views and at times, challenging walking. The Icknield Way historic long distance footpath also weaves its way through the area.
