Renowned for its post graduate program, Cranfield University positions itself between traditional universities and industry; Cranfield combines the academic rigour and long term perspective of a university with the commercial and business focus of industry. Its core specialism include Applied Science, Health, Defence, Engineering and Management.

Cranfield’s research income, measured as a percentage of turnover, ranks it as one of the top five research intensive universities in the UK alongside Oxford, Cambridge, and London’s Imperial College and UCL.

Cranfield School of Management is a top international business school and is one of the world’s largest providers of executive development programmes for practising managers. The Cranfield MBA is consistently ranked among the top one-year programmes in the world, while the Financial Times ranks Cranfield as the 2nd best business school in UK and 8th best in Europe, while its teaching of Economics is rated as 2nd best in the world.

With one of its main campuses in Bedford town centre, University of Bedfordshire is gaining a reputation as one of the best new universities in the country. In 2007, the University of Bedfordshire was one of only five to have been short listed for the coveted title of University of the Year in the Times Higher Education Supplement awards. The National Student Survey has ranked the University 5th the UK for Journalism, 7th for Law and 15th for Business 15th; while the Guardian ranked it as 3rd in the country for media related courses.

The university has recently invested £34 million on its Bedford site with new accommodation, a theatre, restaurants and an £8m Physical Education and Sport Science Centre, which will be used to train athletes for the 2012 Olympics.

With more than 1,900 students in full-time education, and over 200 young people on apprenticeship and other work-based programmes, Bedford College is a key provider of local education and training. Pass rates are above the national average across all academic and vocational subjects, and its Sixth Form College sends more students to university than any other school or college in the country.

It has the distinction of possessing five Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) Awards in: Plumbing Services, House Building for the Future, Health & Social Care Skills, Supervisory & Management Skills and Skills for Energy.
